Monthly Report

September 2015

·         Gave a talk on the topic: ‘Iman’ at the Friday Night Family Event on Friday, September 4. The talk touched upon the meaning and implications of iman, some of the symptoms of weak iman, some of the causes that lead to weakness of iman, and some of the ways to  strengthen one’s iman.

·         Delivered Jumu’ah khutba on Friday, September 4 at IONA in the city of Warren.

·       Conducted the Tahajjud prayers in the Masjid on Sunday, September 6. InshaAllah, Congregational Tahajjud prayers will be offered on the first Sunday of every month, as a part of AMDA’s regular religious activities. 

·         Conducted a workshop on Hajj on Sunday, September 6 from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm for the intending pilgrims in the community.   

·         Attended a meeting on Tuesday, Sept 8 at the Christ Lutheran Church with leaders of other faith traditions. The meeting chalked out a strategy to counter the bigotry and opposition shown by a segment of the community to the proposal of a new mosque in Sterling Heights on 15 Mile and Ryan Road.

·         Delivered Jumu’ah khutba on Friday, September 11 at AMDA on the topic: “How to strengthen one’s iman.”

·         Participated in a seminar: “Presenting Islam to Fellow Americans” (PITFA) conducted by CAIR-Michigan from 10 am to 1.00 pm on Saturday, May 19 at AMDA. 

·         Led the Eid al-Adha prayers and delivered the Eid Khutba on Thursday, Sept 24.

·         Had a meeting on Thursday, Sept 24 in the Masjid with Rev. Michael T. Curro, Executive Director – Interfaith Center for Racial Justice (ICRJ) to discuss the subject matter of the proposed interfaith dialogue on Sept 30 at the Chaldean Community Foundation office in Sterling Heights. 

·         Delivered Jumu’ah khutba on Friday, Sept 25 on the topic: “Remembering Death.”

·         Youth of AMDA organized a talk after Maghrib prayers on Friday, Sept 25 on the topic: “Islam and Modern Science.” The speaker was Dr. Abdullah Masoodi.  

·         Participated in a meeting on Wednesday, Sept 30 at the Chaldean Community Foundation office (4171 15 Mile Road, Sterling Heights, MI 48310) to discuss possibilities for an interfaith response to help heal the community in Sterling Heights following the City’s recent decision of not allowing the construction of a proposed mosque at a site on 15 Mile and Ryan Road.
